As part of the Interreg Italy–Switzerland BlitzArt project programme, Fondazione Canova is organising a practical workshop dedicated to traditional stone mule track construction techniques, led by Maurizio Cesprini.

The activity, free of charge and held in Italian, will offer an opportunity to deepen the understanding of ancient Alpine routes and the construction techniques that have shaped mountain landscapes for centuries.

The workshop will alternate between a short theoretical introduction — focused on the work of Fondazione Canova in promoting and enhancing traditional stone architecture, as well as on the importance of mule tracks as fundamental connections between Alpine villages — and practical hands-on activities directly on site.

Participants will experience the main operational phases involved in the maintenance and reconstruction of a section of traditional mule track, including ground preparation, stone selection and laying, slope formation, and construction of the traditional stone paving.

Through direct hands-on experience, participants will gain an understanding of the cultural, technical, and landscape value of these historic infrastructures, which represent fundamental elements of the memory and identity of Alpine territories.
